Bogdan Cuvaj (born October 21, 1905 in Agram , Austria-Hungary ; † July 23 or 25, 1983 ) was a Croatian football coach who won the Yugoslav and Croatian football championships several times with Concordia Zagreb and the 1959 final with Kickers Offenbach reached the German soccer championship.

career

Hardly any information can be found about the beginnings of Cuvaj's activity as a trainer. According to the Croatian Wikipedia, he is said to have trained the youth team of his home club Concordia Zagreb as early as 1926 - at the age of just 20 years. Because he did a very convincing job with the youngsters, he is said to have been entrusted as head coach of the first team with which he won the Yugoslav football championship in 1930 . He was able to repeat this success again in the 1931/32 season.

During the Second World War , Cuvaj trained the HŠK Concordia and won the football championship with him in 1942, which was limited to Croatia during this time. He was also responsible for the Croatian national soccer team in 1941 and 1942 .

After the war, Cuvaj took over the NK Lokomotiva Zagreb , for which he was responsible from 1946 to 1952. He later worked as a coach at Dinamo Zagreb before he moved to Germany to the Main , where he first coached FSV Frankfurt (1956/57) and then (from 1958 to 1962) the Offenbacher Kickers. With these he succeeded in his first season 1958/59 the entry into the final of the German soccer championship. There he met his direct predecessor Paul Oßwald , who had coached the Kickers from 1946 to 1958. Oßwald was signed by arch rivals and neighbors Eintracht Frankfurt in 1958 and was able to prevail in the final with his new team against his former team with 5-3 after extra time .
