The Matsuda Station ( Jap. 松田駅 , Matsuda-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Honshu , operated by the railway company JR Central . It is located in Kanagawa Prefecture in the Matsuda City area .

description

Matsuda is a separation station on the Gotemba Line , which runs from Kōzu to Numazu . Regional trains run on it at irregular intervals (approx. Every 30 to 60 minutes), and there are individual repeater trains from Kōzu to Gotemba during rush hour . On the section between Gotemba and Matsuda, the Fujisan , an express train operated by the Odakyū Dentetsu railway company ( called Asagiri until the timetable change in March 2018 ) runs three times a day on weekdays and four times a day on weekends . This uses a connecting track to the east of Matsuda station to get on the Odakyū Odawara line and then goes to Shinjuku station in central Tokyo .

The station is located in the city center and faces southeast to northwest. It has three tracks, all of which are used for passenger traffic. They are located on the house platform and on a covered central platform . This is connected on the one hand via a covered overpass at the western end to the reception building on the north side of the facility, on the other hand from the eastern end through an underpass to the smaller southern reception building. From there it is a 100-meter walk to Odakyu's Shin-Matsuda train station . In between is a small bus terminal, which is served by ten bus routes from the Hakone Tozan Bus and Fujikyū Shōnan Bus companies.

The freight transport company JR Freight carries out single wagon traffic for local companies and uses two additional shunting tracks for this purpose. Likewise, new rail vehicles from the Odakyū and Hakone Tozan Tetsudō companies are delivered via Matsuda .

In 2016, an average of 3316 passengers used the station every day.

history

The state railway opened on February 1, 1889, a section of the Tōkaidō main line , which extended from Kōzu via Matsuda, Gotemba and Numazu to Shizuoka . Five months later, on July 1, 1889, the entire Tōkaidō main line between Tokyo and Kobe was continuously passable. The small town of Matsuda experienced a rapid boom due to its location on Japan's most important transport route. Traffic began to shift significantly on April 1, 1927, when the private Odakyū Dentetsu opened the nearby Shin-Matsuda station on the Odawara Line. The capital Tokyo could be reached much faster on this route. Another loss of importance came on December 1, 1934 with the opening of the new line via Atami , which steered the entire national traffic of the Tōkaidō main line on itself. The old mountain line via Matsuda was only a branch line of regional importance and was given the new name Gotemba Line .

Due to an agreement between the Japanese State Railways and Odakyū Dentetsu, the latter began to use a recently completed connecting track at Matsuda station on October 1, 1955, in order to be able to lead express trains to Gotemba. The construction of this connection had started shortly before the end of the Pacific War at the request of the army, but remained unfinished for ten years. Diesel multiple units also operated on the Gotemba line from 1955 . The railway line and connecting track were electrified on April 27, 1968. For cost reasons, the State Railroad abandoned cargo handling on November 15, 1982, and on February 1, 1984, it also stopped checking in luggage. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the ownership of the new company JR Central on April 1, 1987 . Since October 1st, 1994, JR Freight has been carrying out freight traffic in Matsuda again.
