career

Kickers Offenbach, 1950 to 1966

Oberliga Süd, 1956 to 1963

The young striker Siegfried Gast, who came to Kickers Offenbach from TSG Mainflingen as a C-youth , played his first competitive game in the Oberliga Süd in the 1956/57 round, on May 5, 1957 at the OFC's away game at Freiburg FC . In the 0-0 ending encounter in the Mösle Stadium, he was used as a left winger. In his second season in the major league, he won the title of top scorer in the south in 24 missions with 20 goals. Again, coach Paul Oßwald had brought a talent from within his own ranks to the level of performance of the Oberliga Süd. The young striker's talent for goal scoring developed alongside the recognized offensive forces Engelbert Kraus , Gerhard Kaufhold , Helmut Preisendörfer , Ernst Wade and Hermann Nazarenus . After the round in 1957/58, coach Oßwald moved to the Main and took over Eintracht Frankfurt . For the talented guest and kickers Offenbach it was a big loss in perspective. In 1959 Offenbach won the runner-up in the south behind Eintracht Frankfurt and moved into the final round of the German soccer championship . “Siggi” guest scored 12 goals in 22 appearances. In the final round, the Kickers prevailed against Hamburger SV , Westfalia Herne and Tasmania Berlin and moved into the final on June 28, 1959 in Berlin. In a dramatic game, Eintracht Frankfurt prevailed with a 5-3 win after extra time against Offenbach. Gast scored the OFC's third goal in the 110th minute, with an interim score of 3: 4 and had played in all seven games of the finals. In the following year, 1959/60, his 20 hits helped Offenbach to runner-up in the south. Offenbach lost the qualifying game for the finals on May 7, 1960 in Hanover with 0-1 goals against Westfalia Herne. When "Siggi" guest scored 21 goals in the 1961/62 world championship round in the Oberliga, national coach Sepp Herberger nominated him for the international match of the junior national team U 23 on May 6, 1962 in Aachen against France. With the attack formation Carl-Heinz Rühl , Horst Trimhold , Wilhelm Bergstein , Gast and Oskar Lotz , the DFB representation won the game with 3-0 goals. In addition to Bergstein and Rühl, Guest also entered the list of goalscorers. In the last league year 1962/63, the goalscorer from Bieberer Berg only scored 11 goals and the Kickers were denied the nomination for the new Bundesliga for the round 1963/64 as seventh in the table . The placements alone in the period of Siegfried Gast's senior league career - 1956/57 to 1962/63 - with three runners-up, two fourths and one fifth and seventh place each, clearly cast doubt on this decision.

Regionalliga Süd, 1963 to 1966

In the Regionalliga Süd , Siegfried Gast made 106 appearances with 69 goals in the rounds 1963/64 to 1965/66, but the hoped-for promotion to the Bundesliga did not succeed in these three rounds with Offenbach. After two "disappointing" third places in the first two years of the Regionalliga behind Hessen Kassel and FC Bayern Munich 1964 or Bayern Munich and SSV Reutlingen in 1965, Gast moved into the 1966 Bundesliga promotion round with the OFC as runner-up in the 1965/66 season a. To the runner-up he had contributed 24 hits in the south. In the promotion round, he stormed in all six matches against Fortuna Düsseldorf , Hertha BSC and FK Pirmasens for Offenbach, but Düsseldorf dominated the group and was promoted to the Bundesliga.

In the summer of 1966 Siegfried Gast said goodbye to Kickers Offenbach after 262 rounds with 163 goals and stormed again for his home club TSG Mainflingen. In the black and yellow on the Hessian-Bavarian border, he celebrated the district championship in 1969/70 and promotion to the group league south in 1970/71.
