Hermann Staats

Hermann Staats (born September 28, 1957 ) is a German psychoanalyst , group analyst and couple and family therapist . Since 2006 he has been Sigmund-Freud - Professor for psychoanalytically oriented developmental psychology at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences . Staats is chairman of the group psychotherapy and group analysis working group and director of the family center at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Life

From 1976 to 1983 he studied medicine in Kiel and Würzburg, received his doctorate in Kiel, and habilitation in 2001 in psychosomatics and psychotherapy at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 2006 he was appointed to the Sigmund-Freud endowed professorship for psychoanalytically oriented developmental psychology in Potsdam. Staats is a member of the research commissions of the German Psychoanalytical Society (DPG) (chaired since 2016), the Science and Research Advisory Board of the German Society for Group Analysis and Group Psychotherapy (D3G) and the consensus conference on quality assurance of the German Society for Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Depth Psychology (DGPT ) as well as numerous professional associations. His main research interests are intrapsychic and interpersonal relationship patterns, psychoanalytic development theories and their application in counseling, therapy and education, as well as research on the process and outcome of psychotherapies and counseling.

Act

Hermann Staats initially worked in general medicine, then at psychotherapeutic and psychiatric clinics. From 1991 to 1999 he was senior physician in the department for clinical group psychotherapy at the University of Göttingen, then until 2006 senior physician at the department for psychosomatics and psychotherapy with a focus on supervision, family therapy and as head of the medical-psychological counseling center at the university. Since 2005 he has hosted the DPG's Scientific Summer School for research in psychoanalysis. In 2007 he was given a part-time practice as a doctor for psychotherapeutic medicine. Since 2010 he has been chairman of the working group for the application of psychoanalysis in groups (since 2016: working group group psychotherapy and group analysis), since 2012 head of the family center at the FH Potsdam.

Staats is a doctor for psychotherapeutic medicine, training analyst of the German Society for Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Depth Psychology (DGPT), the German Psychoanalytical Society (DPG), the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) and the German Society for Group Analysis and Group Psychotherapy (D3G) with further training in suggestions Methods and autogenic training, couple and family therapy and parent-infant-toddler psychotherapy. He works as a lecturer at various institutes in the training of psychotherapists and social therapists in individual, group and family therapy.

Staats is co-editor of the magazine group psychotherapy and group analysis at Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht-Verlag and publisher of specialist books on relationship patterns and group therapy and group analysis.
