life and work

Uhlfelder was head of the port and bridge construction department in Frankfurt am Main from 1900 to 1932. During his tenure, among other things, the Frankfurt Osthafen , located in the Ostend district, was built . To commemorate this, the city of Frankfurt named a street in the Osthafen to Uhlfelder.

In addition to his work in the building administration of the city of Frankfurt am Main, Uhlfelder was also a founding member and managing director of the association for the preparation of the Hamburg-Frankfurt-Basel motorway ( HaFraBa for short ). A year before the association was founded, Uhlfelder traveled to Italy with Willy Hof and found out about the car-only train designed by Piero Puricelli . The knowledge gained at this time had a major impact on the planning and construction of motorways in the German Empire and thereafter.

Uhlfelder was married to Adelheide Seligman (marriage in 1900).
