Hermetism (literature)
As Hermetismus (ital. Ermetismo ) one is style in literature, especially the poetry of the 20th century called.
Hermetic poetry is in the tradition of French symbolism . It is characterized by the use of private symbols and metaphors , which makes it difficult for the reader to access.
Ermetismo had important representatives in Italy in the 1930s. These include:
- Eugenio Montale (1896-1981)
- Salvatore Quasimodo (1901–1968)
- Giuseppe Ungaretti (1888–1970)
In the German-speaking world, the poems of Stefan George , Gottfried Benn and especially Paul Celan show features of hermeticism. Whether in general Hermetism is to be seen as an independent literary movement or as a tendency within symbolism remains open - apart from the special case of Italy.
Hermetism was also used as a derogatory term for "dark sealing".
