Hermione of Ephesus
Hermione of Ephesus (also: Hermina ) († around 117 in Ephesus ) was an early Christian martyr and saint .
Hermione is believed to be the daughter of the deacon Philip . The Acts of the Apostles ( Acts 21,9 EU ) reports that Philip had four daughters, Christian virgins with the gift of prophetic speech . Hermione had moved to Ephesus with her sister Eutyche to meet with the apostle John , who had already passed away. In Ephesus Hermione suffered the martyrdom under Emperor Trajan , possibly also under Hadrian . Bishop Polycrates of Ephesus (2nd century) sees her as a daughter of the apostle Philip , but he may have been mistaken for the fact that the deacon Philip was sometimes called an apostle.
Hermione is venerated as a saint in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches . Her feast day is September 4th .
