Waitze mansion

The Waitze manor house is a manor house in the southern part of Wiejce (German: Weitze) on the banks of the Warta in the municipality of Skwierzyna (Schwerin an der Warthe) in the Meseritz ( Międzyrzecz ) district.

history

The village was possibly mentioned as early as 1420. A deed of donation from Tytus Breza to his mother Barbara Schonaich has been handed down for 1620. Stanislaw Breza was mentioned as the owner in 1626, and in 1779 by Onufry von Klono. A first manor house in the village was probably on the site of the Zachenberg.

In 1832 the ownership of the village was auctioned off, Wilhelm Georg von Jena is named as the owner for 1855, and in 1872 Adolf Wollmann, who was also the owner of the local glassworks “Charlottenhütte”. From 1904 until the expulsion in 1945, the manor belonged to the von Bennigsen family.

The manor house, which was undamaged in the Second World War, was first used as a school in the People's Republic of Poland, then as a children's holiday home. In 1967 the manor was badly damaged by fire.

After restoration, reconstruction and modernization, the manor house is now a hotel.

architecture

Today's manor house was built under the Jena. The mansion is a two-storey building with a rectangular floor plan, which was rebuilt under Alexander von Benningsen in the neo-baroque style and expanded with risalits on the narrow side. The main fronts are designed by three-axis pseudorisalites, which are crowned on the courtyard side with a triangular gable and on the garden side with semicircular gables. The entire building has a gable roof with a beaver tail double covering. An orangery was built on the west side at the beginning of the 20th century. In the gable above the main entrance there are coats of arms of von Bennigsen and von Zedlitz. A farm yard north between the manor house and the village street.
