Herrmann Becker

Herrmann Becker (born September 10, 1887 in Trebus ; † April 21, 1970 ) was an officer in the German air force in the First World War .

Life

Herrmann was born as the son of the goods manager S. Becker. He attended the municipal high school in Görlitz and studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University. He worked as an engineer in Schweidnitz, Silesia .

As a war volunteer, Becker reported to the air force and at the beginning of 1915 was assigned to Airplane Replacement Department 2 (FEA 2) in Adlershof. As a foreman, he moved to Galicia in 1915 with Feldfliegerabteilung 57 (FFA 57) and took part in the fighting on the Dunajek near Gorlice-Tarnow. In the summer of 1915 he passed his pilot's, field pilot's and flight master's exams in Graudenz and stayed there until the end of 1915 as a technical teacher at the Fliegerbeobachterschule (FBS) there.

In early 1916 he came to the Western Front as a pilot in Combat Squadron 5 of the Supreme Army Command ( Kagohl 5 ). He was involved in the Verdun Offensive and the Somme Battle. In addition to the daily restricted flights, he repeatedly carried out day and night bombing flights into the enemy rear area. He was promoted to lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve in November 1916.

After the Kagohl 5 was dissolved, Becker was transferred as a pilot to Schutzstaffel 11 in the Somme section. May 1917 Transfer to the Prussian Jagdstaffel 12, which was led by First Lieutenant Adolf Ritter von Tutschek . He took part in the spring battle at Arras, the trench warfare in Artois, the autumn battle in Flanders and the tank battle near Cambrai.

In May 1918 Becker received the Hohenzollern House Order and in June 1918 was appointed leader of Jagdstaffel 12, which he led until the armistice.

He ended the war with 23 (some sources speak of 24) confirmed kills. On November 5, 1918, it was submitted to the Pour le Mérite , but was no longer given the order as a result of the revolution.
