Herrmann Schmidt (born August 31, 1803 , † October 19, 1867 ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

Schmidt had got to know the sugar production there during stays in France . Using the knowledge he had acquired in this way, he decided to found the Schmidt and Coqui brothers' sugar factory in Westerhüsen south of Magdeburg in 1838, together with his brother Albert Schmidt and the businessman Henry Coqui . The factory was the second sugar factory in the Magdeburger Börde , one of the main sugar beet growing areas, and existed for about 80 years.

Schmidt married his wife Pauline , who was the sister of his brother Albert's second wife. However, no children were born from the marriage. The couple lived in the house on the property of the sugar factory. After the second wife of his brother died giving birth to Paul Schmidt in 1856, Hermann and Pauline took Paul to live with them. Paul later became an entrepreneur himself and a member of the Reichstag.
