The amazing adventures of Mr. Rabbit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The amazing adventures of Mr. Hase , in previous editions Mr. Hase's hair-raising adventures ( French Les formidables aventures de Lapinot ) is a comic series by the French comic artist Lewis Trondheim .

content

The characters in this series, as in most Trondheim comics, are anthropomorphic animals. The main character Mr. Rabbit (Lapinot) is a young man in his mid-20s who is actually not inclined to be adventurous, but who also shows fighting skills when necessary.

Other recurring characters are Mr. Hase's friend Richard (a tomcat), who is characterized by youthful cockiness; Thierry "Titi" Bäcker (a dog), an established heavy smother; Pierrot (a rat), the intellectual; and Nadia Cassayrane (a mouse), budding journalist and Hase's friend.

A peculiarity of the series is that the characters are used like actors that Trondheim uses in different settings and genres. Blacktown, for example, is a western , powdery mildew is a coat-and-epee battle, and Walter is a horror story set in the 19th century. There are also episodes that take place in the present and tell the story of Mr Rabbit and Nadia.

Richard the hangover is often portrayed as a villain and opponent of Mr. Rabbit in the genre episodes, while he is Mr. Rabbit's best friend in the "present episodes". Here the two act like siblings who are constantly fighting: Hase as a big brother and Richard as a hopeless child who is characterized by a cheeky demeanor and happy irresponsibility. So the villain role is a twinkle in the eye regarding the “immoral”, “unscrupulous” character of Richard.

publication

The figure Lapinot appears for the first time in the small volume Un intérieur d'artiste (L'Associacion, 1991), which, however, is no longer available in French and is no longer published at Trondheim's request.

The first Lapinot album was Lapinot et les carottes de Patagonie , a black and white 500-page fantasy epic borrowed from crime, which Trondheim said it used to teach itself to draw comics. It was published in 1992 by L'Association , a publisher co-founded by Trondheim , as was the next volume, Slaloms (1993). It tells how Mr. Rabbit met Nadia on a winter vacation.

The third album, Mildiou , was published in paperback format in 1994 by Le Seuil. In Reprodukt Publishing House this band is also in German under the title mildew appeared.

Starting with the album Blacktown (1995), Dargaud released the series in the usual French album format and in color. A total of 10 albums have been released by Dargaud with the band numbers 0 to 9. Volume 0 is a redrawn color version of slaloms that Trondheim made, as Dargaud's second volume, Pichenettes , is the continuation of slaloms . Volume 9, L'accélérateur atomique (2003), appeared paradoxically a year before volume 8, La vie comme elle vient (2004).

The Dargaud albums were originally published in German by Carlsen Verlag and had the numbers 1 to 10. The order of the bands did not correspond to the French version. Slaloms was Volume 3 here, although it was cursed chronologically before Volume 2 ! ( Pichenettes ) plays. Since 2010, the Reprodukt series has been reissued in Germany with the chronologically correct order and partial new translations under a changed series title.

Another story in this series was published in English in 2000 by the American publisher fantagraphic-books in the Nimrod # 4 and is entitled the stroll . It is black and white and plays in the present. The first publication took place in 1996 in the French volume Noire est la terre (publishing house Autrement) under the title Promenade . She tells how Lapinot, Richard, Titi and Pierrot go on a short vacation to the country and take a walk in nature, which is alien to them as city dwellers.

Trondheim staged some characters from the Herr Hase universe without Herr Hase: Titi made a cameo in Lewis Trondheim's Intriguers , a mini-comic for the R-24 Reprodukt range . The secondary characters Felix Gimpel (duck) and Patrick Löwenherz (cat) are the protagonists of the spin-off volumes Mein Freund, derrechner (2003) and Not without my console (2004), both at Carlsen. In the original, these two volumes appeared in the series Les formidables aventures sans Lapinot (Eng. The amazing adventures without Mr Rabbit ).

Mr. Hase later appeared on the cover of issue 3658 of the Belgian comic magazine Spirou from May 21, 2008. On the left of the title lettering you can see him in the clothes of the title character Spirou , on the right he is being led away in underwear and handcuffs by two policemen who have taken off his costume.

After a break of 13 years, Lewis Trondheim continues the adventures of Mr Rabbit in the new series The New Adventures of Mr Rabbit .
