Manufacturer key number

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The manufacturer's key number (HSN) is a four-digit numeric code that identifies the manufacturer of a motor vehicle or trailer .

The HSN is noted in Part I of the registration certificate under point 2.1. In the old vehicle registration it was under the item "zu 2".

The combination of the HSN and the three-digit, alphanumeric type code number (TSN) clearly identifies the type of vehicle. For example, the key number 0005 / ALQ stands for the version of the BMW 318d Touring with 105 kW (143 hp ) and 1,995 cc displacement, built from 2007 . It is 0005 , the HSN (for BMW ) and ALQ the TSN.

The assignment between manufacturer names and HSNs is not always clear: some manufacturers are assigned several HSNs, and conversely, some HSNs stand for different manufacturer names, which can happen through a change of name or restructuring of the HSN owner.

The Federal Motor Transport Authority maintains a complete, numerically sorted list of the manufacturer's key numbers .
