Herta Wolf

Herta Wolf (born 1954 ) is an art historian and professor of art history at the University of Cologne .

Life

Wolf studied philology, theater studies and philosophy at the University of Vienna. After receiving her doctorate in 1988, she worked as a research assistant at the Austrian Photo Archive in the Museum of Modern Art and at the University of Mannheim . From 1993 to 1994 she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the graduate college “Theory of Literature and Media” at the University of Konstanz . From 1994 to 2010 she was professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen and since 2010 professor for the history and theory of photography at the Art History Institute of the University of Cologne. Her main focus is the early history of photography and photo history in the context of the history of science. In particular, she deals with scientific presentation and recording processes. From 2012 to 2016 she headed the DFG project photography as applied science
