Duke Adolph Memorial

The Herzog-Adolph-Monument is a monument in Königstein im Taunus . The monument to Duke Adolph von Nassau was created by Gustav Eberlein and is a listed building .

After the annexation of the Duchy of Nassau by Prussia , Duke Adolph von Nassau received the Luxembourg Castle as private property and used it as a summer residence for his wife Adelheid Marie . The couple therefore stayed in the city often and were popular here. After the death of the Duke (who later became Grand Duke of Luxembourg) in 1905, the pastors of both denominations called for donations for a Duke Adolph memorial in 1906. The area of the former Bleiche was converted into a complex by the Frankfurt garden architect Robert Waldacker . The monument has now been erected there, the larger than life figure of the deceased being designed by Gustav Eberlein. The casting was carried out by H. Gladenbeck, Berlin. The monument was ceremonially unveiled on September 12, 1910. Grand Duchess Adelheid Marie was personally present. Gustav Eberlein could not be present: he was on his way to Buenos Aires , where his equestrian statue was inaugurated by General José de San Martín at the same time.
