Duchy of Coligny
The Duchy of Coligny consisted of two separate areas, both owned by the Coligny family :
- 1643 to 1646 from the lordship of Châtillon-sur-Loing , which on August 18, 1643 under the name Coligny for Gaspard III. de Coligny was raised to duchy.
- 1648 to 1657 from the county of Coligny ( Coligny-le-Neuf ), which in November 1648 by King Louis XIV with the area around Coligny in the Bresse and the Revermont in favor of Gaspard IV. De Coligny , lieutenant general and son of Gaspard III. , was raised to duchy and peerage .
Dukes of Coligny
The title Duke of Coligny was borne by three members of the Coligny family in the 17th century.
- Gaspard III. de Coligny , Count of Coligny , Lord of Châtillon-sur-Loing, Marshal of France .
- Gaspard IV de Coligny , son of Gaspard III, lieutenant general in the king's army. Wounded at Charenton , he was made Marshal of France on his deathbed. In November 1648 the king made the county of Coligny the Duchy of Coligny, so that Gaspard IV was now Duke of Châtillon and Coligny.
- Henry-Gaspard de Coligny , posthumous son of Gaspard IV, was Duke of Coligny. He died in 1657.
