Heart Center Bonn

The Bonn Heart Center is an amalgamation of several clinics, institutes and departments of the Bonn University Hospital . Patients with cardiovascular diseases of all ages are cared for. All operative or interventional, intensive care and drug procedures of a university clinic are available.

With 7 wards, 2 intensive care units, 3 operating theaters, 6 cardiac catheterization laboratories including a hybrid operating room , the Bonn Heart Center is one of the largest heart centers in Germany.

The following clinics, institutes and departments are involved in the Heart Center Bonn:

  • Medical Clinic and Polyclinic II (Internal Medicine - Cardiology, Pneumology and Angiology)
  • Clinic and Polyclinic for Cardiac Surgery
  • Clinic and Polyclinic for Anaesthesiology and Operative Intensive Care Medicine
  • Clinic and Polyclinic for Neurology
  • Clinic and Polyclinic for Nuclear Medicine
  • Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine Department of the Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Pediatric Department of the Center for Pediatrics
  • Institute for Physiology I
  • Institute for Physiology II
  • Radiological Clinic

The heart center is headed by Professor Dr. Georg Nickenig (cardiology) and Professor Dr. Hendrik Treede (cardiac surgery).

history

In June 2016, the then Science Minister of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Svenja Schulze , announced that the State of North Rhine-Westphalia will provide around 343 million euros for construction and renovation projects at the Bonn University Hospital as part of the new Medical Modernization Program (MedMoP). Of this amount, 122 million euros (construction costs: 95,000,000 euros, initial set-up costs: 27,000,000 euros) go to the new heart center on the premises of the Bonn University Hospital on the Venusberg . After completion, the various operational disciplines and the various medical clinics will be centralized in the new building. So far, the functions have been distributed over several buildings.

The German architecture and planning office HDR received the contract to build the heart center .
