Heterocycles is a peer review - journal , which since 1973 by the Japan Institute of Heterocyclic Chemistry is published. Elsevier distributes the magazine outside of Japan .

The journal publishes original articles, review articles and communications in the field of heterocycle chemistry. The areas of organic chemistry , pharmaceutical chemistry , analytical chemistry and medicinal chemistry are dealt with. Furthermore, structural analysis work on newly discovered heterocyclic natural products and total syntheses of heterocyclic natural products are published.

The impact factor in 2014 was 1.079. According to the statistics of the ISI Web of Knowledge , the journal with this impact factor ranks 38th out of 57 journals in the organic chemistry category.
