The Hetzendorfer Straße is located in Vienna and connects the 12th with the 13th district. It was named after the former Viennese suburb of Hetzendorf , which it crosses, and is around 2.5 km long.

Hetzendorfer Straße begins in the 12th district of An den Eisteichen at the Am Schöpfwerk subway station in an area that was relatively late and has been loosely built up until today. It runs in a westerly direction over the much longer populated Khleslplatz near Altmannsdorf Castle and shortly afterwards crosses Altmannsdorfer Strasse and Breitenfurter Strasse, two longer arterial roads to the south that are heavily used.

After crossing under the Südbahn, which runs on a high embankment and was opened in 1842, at the Hetzendorf S-Bahn station , which has functioned as such since 1962 , the road passes Hetzendorf Castle near the center of the former village and then crosses the Rosenhügelstraße, which was expanded in the 1920s, which leads to historic row house settlement Hetzendorf leads.

At the intersection with Atzgersdorfer Strasse on the Stranzenberg Bridge, which opened on December 10, 1971, the district boundary 12/13 is crossed, which has formed the right edge of the road since the branching off of Kernstrasse. In the 13th district, Hietzing , the street ends in the Speising part of the city.After the tram depot Hetzendorf of Wiener Linien, at the junction with Himmelbauergasse / Berghaidengasse it imperceptibly merges into Feldkellergasse .

The street is used from its eastern beginning to the southern runway by the urban bus line 16A, from the Breitenfurter Straße to its western end by the tram line 62, which has five stops in the Hetzendorfer Straße.

After today's districts 12 and 13 were incorporated into Vienna in 1892, Hetzendorfer Straße was named in 1894 after the then suburb of Hetzendorf . Before that, it was known as Hauptstraße or Altmannsdorfer Weg and Hetzendorfer Weg .

Hetzendorf was first mentioned in 1156 under the name Hercendorf . Since Altmannsdorf was also built before 1200, a road between the two villages has probably existed for more than 800 years. Speising was first mentioned in a document in 1365. The road connection there is also very old. Crossing traffic routes, all northwards towards Wiental , have also existed since the early Middle Ages.

The tram service in Hetzendorfer Strasse was started by the city administration on April 30, 1904 from Breitenfurter Strasse to Kernstrasse (where the very narrow core bridge over the connecting line was located until 1971 , which was then replaced by the Stranzenberg Bridge two blocks to the west) , in the Feldkellergasse at the western end of the street on August 7th, 1912. The missing intermediate section from Kernstrasse to Feldkellergasse was opened on December 22nd, 1915. When the Southern Railway was underpassed, the line was single-track for decades.

The eastern part of Hetzendorfer Strasse ran from around Altmannsdorfer Strasse next to a small watercourse, the "Altmannsdorfer Graben". This channel was vaulted during the First World War from Altmannsdorfer Straße to the “An den Eisteichen” path . The construction work for this 572 m long canalization lasted from January 4, 1915 to June 23, 1917. It was part of the preparatory work for the sewers of the Liesingtal.
