The village of Heudorf , originally: Heudorf bei Mengen , also Mengisch-Heudorf , is a district of the town of Scheer in the Sigmaringen district .

geography

It is assumed that the name of the place is derived from the topographical location. At 587 m, Heudorf is higher than other places (Scheer 576 m, Mengen 560 m).

history

Heudorf was first mentioned in a document in 1231. However, the first traces of settlement date back to the Celtic era. Due to the division of power, Heudorf fell to the noble Heinrich von Montfort. At that time Heudorf was part of the Buchau dean's office. But Kirchherr was still Heinrich von Montfort.

When Heudorf was taken over by the Habsburgs, from whose house the king also came, the Counts and Barons of Reischach ruled . This rule should not last long, because Heudorf was sold to the Austrian rulers' hospital in 1489. Since then, the village has been named “Mengisch-Heudorf”, not so much to avoid confusion, but more to express the ownership structure. Later you come across the name "Ober-Heudorf". At that time a mayor and a citizens' committee were already elected, but these were under constant control of the Quantum Hospital by a magistrate.

When the war against France was lost, the House of Austria ceded all of Front Austria to Napoleon in the Peace of Pressburg in 1805. The Elector of Württemberg, who was recognized as king, took over, among other things, quantities. As a result, Heudorf became part of Württemberg and, after several reorganizations, belonged to the Danube District and was subordinate to the Saulgau royal office. A place description published in 1829 states that Heudorf had around 340 inhabitants at the time. A brewery and a Schildwirtschaft were located. There is also a report of a high, circular hill near the place where a castle is said to have been. On this hill (called "Burgleh") the Hiltenburg is in fact supposed to have been. Remains testify to it.

Until 1972 Heudorf belonged to the Oberamt / District Saulgau. Heudorf became part of the Sigmaringen district through the district reform. On January 1, 1974, the community of Heudorf was incorporated into the town of Scheer in the form of a community reform. Heudorf has been a district of Scheer ever since.
