Hewitt (hill)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Hewitt (English h ill in E ngland, W ales or I reland over t wo t housand feet) refers to a hill in England, Wales or Ireland that is at least 2000 feet or 609.6 meters high and stands out from its surroundings at least 30 meters ( notch height ). This bizarre classification was introduced by Alan Dawson.

There are currently 525 Hewitts on record, 178 in England, 137 in Wales and 211 in Ireland. Scotland was not counted by Dawson because there are too many mountains to match. But it is counted in other classifications or even has its own classifications.

In Great Britain and Ireland “collecting” Hewitts is a hiking sport (so-called “peak bagging”).
