Hey ocean! is a Canadian indie trio founded in Vancouver in 2005 .

history

The band was formed when guitarist David Beckingham and singer Ashleigh Ball (who knew each other from school) were joined in 2005 by bassist David Vertesi. The founding constellation still exists and results from Ashleigh Ball (vocals / flute), David Beckingham (vocals / guitar) and David Vertesi (vocals / bass). Hey ocean! combine several genres, mainly indie, pop and acoustic. The band tours regularly over long distances through Canada . They play many of their concerts together with bands and musicians from Vancouver who are friends ( Shad K , Mother Mother and Said the Whale ).

For several years the band sold their music through their own label Nettwerk Management until they signed with Universal Music Canada in 2011 .

Thanks to the singer Ashleigh Ball, the band also gained international attention through the synchronization work in the cartoon series My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic and through the so-called "Bronies", the trailer from the "Friendship-is-Magic" fan universe. Fans have created music videos of the band's songs and footage from the show, some of which can be viewed on the band's official website.

The year 2011 ended with a tour across Canada. It was played at the Prince George Winter Festival . Ashleigh Ball suffered a vocal cord inflammation during one performance, as a result of which the last part of the tour, which covered eastern Canada, was canceled.
