Hicham Zerouali ( Arabic هشام زروالي, DMG Hišām Zarwālī ; * January 17, 1977 ; † December 5, 2004 in Rabat ) was a Moroccan football player .

Life

Zerouali started playing football in his home country. In October 1999 the striker moved from FUS Rabat to Scottish first division club Aberdeen FC for a fee of £ 450,000 . With him he was in the Scottish Cup final in 2000 and reached 3rd place in the Scottish Premier League in the 2001/02 season . He was the first player to wear the number 0 after his fans nicknamed him Zero .

Zerouali played 17 international matches (three goals) for the Moroccan national soccer team , having previously played in the junior national team and in Morocco's Olympic team. In 2002 he took part in the Africa Cup of Nations in Mali with the national team.

In July 2002, Zerouali went to the Saudi Arabian first division club Al-Nasr . After a year he returned to his homeland and played for the first division club FAR Rabat until his death . After numerous injuries, he was able to build on his former strength here and celebrated the greatest success of his career by winning the Moroccan Cup a month before his death.

Zerouali was killed in a traffic accident on December 5, 2004 when he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree.
