Hidden: Source is a multiplayer - Mod of the first-person shooter Half-Life 2 . The mod is currently available in version Beta 4b.

The concept of the game was initially developed by a group of students from the University of Lincoln (UK) under the direction of Mark Wherrett. A half-life prototype was created until Mark Wherrett decided in 2005 to hand the project over to the actual team, which is still working hard to improve the unique gaming experience with the help of the Source Engine .

Backstory

British scientists and geneticists have managed to deflect light around an organic subject so that it becomes invisible to the human eye. Unfortunately, this process results in severe and persistent pain for the subject, which usually results in a loss of reality. So far, it has been impossible to obtain a living subject with the light deflecting ability.

Her breakthrough, known only as Subject 617, escaped, and the IRIS team was sent out to eliminate it. Funding has increased enormously since the escape, but the British government denied any involvement in the genetic experiment.

Gameplay

The gameplay revolves around a team of IRIS Commandos chasing a single player known as the "Hidden" player. While the IRIS team has to rely on their weapons and teamwork, the " hidden " is almost invisible and has a completely different set of weapons. The IRIS member who kills the hidden gets the privilege to play the hidden himself in the next round . He can win by managing to shut down the entire IRIS team. The spawn system is very similar to that of Counter-Strike , so that killed players have to wait until the end of the round to spawn again. The hidden can, when he has eliminated an opponent, eat it and thus regain life energy.

An essential part of the game revolves around fear. Since the Hidden can only be recognized by a slight refraction of light, can see his opponents through walls and hangs himself along ceilings, the IRIS members must be concentrated at all times.

weapons

IRIS units have the choice between two game classes, the “attacker class” and the “care class”. They also have to choose a primary weapon , a secondary weapon and an additional piece of equipment.

  • Supply class (This class is able to supply the team members with ammunition. Each player in this class also has three acoustic noise traps.)
    • Primary weapon:
      • FN P90 Sub Machine Gun (submachine gun)
      • FN303 Less Lethal Launcher (crippling missile launcher)
    • Secondary weapon: (The same as the attacker class.)
    • Additional equipment: (The same as the attacker class.)
  • The hidden has only two weapons:
    • Knife - with two different attacks
      • the sting (which takes three hits to kill)
      • the "Pigstick" (which needs a hit to kill)
    • 3 pipe bombs

In addition, the hidden can attach its victims to walls or ceilings in order to eat them later or simply to frighten the remaining players.
