Hieroglyphics is the name of a US hip-hop group from Oakland , California . The group formed in 1991 when rapper Ice Cube introduced his talented cousin, later founding member Del , to the rest of the crew. They already knew each other from high school , had neither released a record nor formed a permanent group.
history
After problems with various record companies, the Hieroglyphics founded their own label in 1997 with the name Hiero Imperium . The website hieroglyphics.com quickly brought out the first website in the hip-hop sector, whereupon the group won several awards with their creation. With the sampler "One Big Trip" the crew released one of the first albums in 2002, which includes a CD as well as a DVD. When the first album was released, Source Magazine crowned the long player the best album of the year on an independent label.
Solo projects
In addition to his work within the group, Del released two albums in the early days that had been produced by Ice Cube. Both of them sold about 100,000 copies in the US. He also worked with artists such as Jurassic 5 , Blur and the Gorillaz .
Casual, another member of Hieroglyphics , also achieved notoriety. In 1994 he released his debut album "Fear Itself", which did not help him to a great success, but had a high status in the underground.
