Hieronymus Holper , active in Nuremberg between 1435 and 1483 , was a goldsmith in Nuremberg.

Presumably he was the son of Heinz Holber . Nothing is known about his training; In any case, Heinz Holber was not his teacher, since he is not listed as a master goldsmith in Nuremberg master lists. In 1435 Hieronymus Holper received the master's license. He must have had quite a reputation in Nuremberg, because he held several public offices there. In 1448/49 he delivered a now lost bust reliquary of St. Pius . He cut a seal for the Bohemian King Ladislaus Postumus in 1454/55. On May 1, 1460, the Nuremberg Council bought a gilded drinking vessel from him for 54 guilders, 1 schilling and 4 hellers, which was given to Duke Sigismund of Bavaria-Munich, who was visiting Nuremberg . In 1455 he bought a house in Stöpselgasse. From 1461 he was in the silver weighing office and in the goldsmith's show . In addition, he also held the office of coin taster until 1470 . He was married to Kunigunde Ellinger (also Oellinger ) from Weißenburg in Bavaria . In 1481 he was listed as a juror in the office booklet; he was last mentioned in 1483 as alive.

Probably in 1444 he met Albrecht Dürer the Elder , the father of the famous painter Albrecht Dürer . After several years in the Netherlands , he worked as a journeyman in Holper's workshop from 1455 to 1461. He was both the patron and the friend of the talented Dürer. On June 8, 1467, he married Holper's 15-year-old daughter Barbara .

To date, no works can be clearly assigned to Hieronymus Holper apart from the seal mentioned.
