The Hiestand Holding AG based in Schlieren was a listed major Swiss Bakery focusing on convenience -Tiefkühlbackwaren ( "Aufbackwaren") and sales concepts and services that in the 2008 Aryzta rose group. The entire Hiestand Group recently employed around 3,200 people and in 2007 generated sales of 741 million Swiss francs . The Hiestand brand is still used by Aryzta in Switzerland for baked goods.

history

As a 24-year-old young baker, Alfred "Fredy" Hiestand set up his first bakery with second-hand dough machines in a disused laundry and then pursued a career which earned him the title of "Gifpelkönig". In 1967, the farmer's son, together with Albert Abderhalden and a start-up capital of 5,000 Swiss francs, laid the foundation stone for one of today's largest convenience frozen baked goods groups, which before its takeover in 2008 with around 3,200 employees had a turnover of 740.7 million Swiss francs earned.

The innovative ideas and service orientation were decisive for the success of the company. After just one year, Hiestand developed the first dough pieces as a semi-finished product for bakeries, which he sold to major customers. The Butter Croissant innovation spanned several years. By 1975, the first frozen Buttergifpel dough in Switzerland was developed, which stayed moist longer and tasted better. This resulted in an extremely strong growth spurt.

The decisive factor in 1988 was the pre-fermentation of the dough before it was frozen so that it could then be baked quickly and easily at the point of sale at a later point in time. This only took 20 minutes to bake and could also be baked by trained auxiliary staff. This made it possible for retailers and petrol station operators to offer oven-fresh peaks throughout the opening hours.

In 2003 Alfred Hiestand sold his stake and withdrew from the company. At times Albert Abderhalden led the company.

Since 1989 Hiestand has also been represented in Germany with the Hiestand and Suhr brands. In 2006 Hiestand took over the Fricopan company in Berlin-Neukölln with its branch in Immekath in Saxony-Anhalt . Hiestand had subsidiaries in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Poland, Malaysia, Japan and Turkey.

In August 2008 the company merged with its largest shareholder, the Irish IAWS Group, to form Aryzta . The two companies continue to operate independently on the market under the same roof with their existing brands. The shares in Hiestand Holding were listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange until August 20, 2008 .
