Highbury is a district in North London , United Kingdom. It belongs to the borough of Islington .

The Highbury , formerly home of the Arsenal football club , was located in Highbury and was therefore mostly called that. Arsenal FC has now moved to the Emirates Stadium , which is located in Holloway . On the site of the stadium there is now an apartment complex called Highbury Square.

Geography and location

Highbury is 4.4 km north of central London and covers an area of ​​approximately 2 km².

Demographics

According to the 2001 census , there were 21,959 people in Highbury. 75% of the residents were white , 11% black and 6% Asian. 40% of the apartments are condominiums.

Mention in art and literature

In Highbury there was a film studio at 65A Highbury New Park. It was connected to a nearby training center in a former church. The studios were built in 1890, originally as a conservatory. From 1926 they were used by the Piccadilly label as a recording studio, renamed Highbury Film Studios in 1933. In 1954 the Rank Organization bought the studios. Due to financial difficulties, they were closed and razed in 1960. The site is now used by Athenaeum Court.
