The London Borough of Islington [ ˈɪzlɪŋtən ] is a borough of London . It is located just north of the city center. When the Greater London administrative region was founded in 1965, it emerged from the Metropolitan Borough of Islington and the Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury in the former County of London . The population in 2005 was composed of 69.6% white, 14.2% Asian, 10.7% black and 1.4% Chinese.
There are two prisons in Islington ( Holloway Prison and Pentonville Prison ); a former prison is Coldbath Fields . Furthermore, there is the Emirates Stadium of Arsenal and the theater complex Sadler's Wells .
The famous London Dry Gin Gordon’s has been produced in the Clerkenwell district since 1786 .
