Winston Clifford (born September 19, 1965 in Islington , London ) is a British jazz drummer.

Live and act

Clifford began playing drums at the age of fourteen, studied with Bill Eyden ( Tubby Hayes' drummer ) in 1979 and attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in 1985 , where he studied with Trevor Tomkins . He played in London a. a. with Courtney Pine , Julian Joseph , Jason Rebello , the Steve Williamson Band, Pete King , Bheki Mseleku and had a longstanding collaboration with Jonathan Gee and Orphy Robinson (mid-1980s to mid-1990s). From 1996 he belonged to Tim Garland's quartet , in the 1990s to the group Mistura of the flautist Rowland Sutherland and to Roadside Picnic by Mario Castronari . He also worked in Tony Kofi's quartet , with Frevo by Dylan Fowler , in combos by Eddie Jones , with Ciyo Brown , Juwan Agungbe and Mo Nazam . He played with traveling US musicians such as Art Farmer , Eddie Harris , Monty Alexander (with whom he toured in 1991), Archie Shepp , Dave Valentin , Larry Coryell , Slim Gaillard and accompanied the singer Carmen Lundy , with whom he also in New York in 1996 played.

Clifford has recorded with Roadside Picnic, Frevo , Jean Toussaint , Andy Hamilton , Zoe Rahman , the trio by Brian Dee , the quintet by Harry Beckett , Cold Cherry Soup by Arnie Somogyi and with Jan Ponsford .
