Chris Carter (musician)

Chris Carter (born January 28, 1953 in Islington , London , England ) is an English experimental musician. He was primarily known as a founding member of the music project Throbbing Gristle (TG) together with Cosey Fanni Tutti , Peter Christopherson and Genesis P-Orridge .

After the group broke up (final concert on May 29, 1981 in San Francisco ) he founded the synth pop group Chris & Cosey together with his partner Cosey Fanni Tutti . Carter runs their own label Conspiracy International (CTI) together with Cosey . Carter's work ranges audio-visually from experimental 8mm and 16mm film works to sound experiments. Chris Carter has worked with Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart (then still Eurythmics ), Coil , Boyd Rice , Monte Cazazza , among others . Chris and the aforementioned other original members of Throbbing Gristle got together again in 2002 for a CD session (TG24). Carter also digitally remastered and reworked numerous TG recordings.

Carter currently leads (temporarily together with the composer John Richards ) “ Do it yourself ” workshops in which electroacoustic musical instruments are made from found objects, transistors, circuits, etc. self-made and then performed as a Dirty Electronics Ensemble .
