Peter Martin Christopherson called Sleazy (* 27. February 1955 in Leeds , Yorkshire , England; † 24. November 2010 in Bangkok , Thailand ), was a British musician , music video - director and photographer .

Life

Christopherson, the set design and programming had studied and early 1970s in the performance art group COUM Transmissions participated, was one of the founding members of the Industrial band Throbbing Gristle and the associated record label Industrial Records . He developed the first technical methods and synthesizer equipment for tone loops , which can be described as the analog forerunners of modern sampling and final scratch . He is considered a pioneer of modern electronic music, from which groups such as B. Depeche Mode drew their inspiration. Christopherson was also a founding member of the music group Psychic TV in 1981 and after leaving in 1984 he joined the band Coil founded by John Balance .

Christopherson showed himself to be multifaceted as a designer for the cult design group Hipgnosis around Storm Thorgerson, who designed numerous well-known record covers . He also excels as a director with video productions for well-known music groups. Among other things, he shot a music video for Coil , a cover version of Tainted Love , which is now in the archive of the Museum of Modern Art . Christopherson died in his sleep at his home in Bangkok.
