Industrial Records
Industrial Records (IR) is one of the first English Independent - music label and namesake of the genre Industrial .
The independent label emerged in 1975 in London from the radical art and music project COUM Transmissions (later Throbbing Gristle ) and was registered as a trademark in January 1977.
history
The four founding members of Industrial Records and Throbbing Gristle Chris Carter , Cosey Fanni Tutti , Peter Christopherson and Genesis P-Orridge were forced to publish their recordings on their own from 1976 onwards, as the established music publishers refused to put the group's aggressive sound collages and orgies of sounds on vinyl . Under the slogan "Industrial Music for Industrial People" , Throbbing Gristle initially only released their concert recordings on simple music cassettes, but soon managed to set up their own record publishing company. The IR logo showed a stylized chimney of the incinerator in Auschwitz . Industrial Records published numerous audio and visual material from 1976 to 1981: cassettes , records , film and video recordings . In addition to well-known industrial and avant-garde artists such as SPK , Monte Cazazza , Leather Nun , Clock DVA and Thomas Leer / Robert Rental , the label also released recordings by the American poet William S. Burroughs and a few less "traditional" artists (Dorothy, Elizabeth Welch) . The dissolution of Throbbing Gristle in 1981 was also the end of Industrial Records.
After the label fell into a "deep sleep" for over 20 years, it was surprisingly reactivated in 2002 by the four founding members: the digitally remastered CD box 24 hours of TG was released . Although Throbbing Gristle have since disbanded, the label continues to sell CDs, records and fan articles through the Throbbing Gristle Store and offers DDL .
