Highland (motorcycle manufacturer)

Highland is an originally Swedish micro manufacturer of off-road motorcycles that was founded in 1997. The Swedish engine manufacturer Folan (Freddy Olsson and Lars Nilsson) developed a 60-degree V2 engine for Highland . Financial difficulties delayed the start of production, so that the first model, a 950 V-2, did not come onto the German market until 2003. In 2006 another model (Supermoto) was offered with this engine, but the announced 450 was not; then the manufacturer disappeared from the German market.

In 2010 the company was re-established under the name US-Highland in Tulsa ( Oklahoma ). US Highland took over the licenses and production of the engines from China for the manufacture of custom bikes . The company founder Malmberg and two other executives of the manufacturer were killed in a plane crash in June of the same year. In 2013, US Highland made a revised engine range of three single and two-cylinder engines, which are available for installation in motorbikes, quads , power generators and lawnmowers .
