Daniel Messina (born April 9, 1965 in José C. Paz, Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is an Argentine drummer and composer .

Live and act

Messina started playing drums and guitar at the age of six . For almost 10 years he learned to play the drums on his own by playing drums to various records with the help of a book by Gene Krupa . His first teacher was Omar Belmonte , with whom he took lessons for about three years. He then studied for five years with Elias "Chiche" Heger in the Escuela Nacionál de Batería y Percusión . During this time he played in various bands, such as B. Apertura, Quinteto el Quartetazo, or the Baden Jazz Quartet. From October 1989 to June 1991 he also wrote a workshop column in the music magazine "El Musiquero" .

In October 1991 Daniel Messina emigrated to Germany .

From 1993 to November 2017 he was a lecturer in the drum department in Stuttgart.

He has worked with the jazz organist Barbara Dennerlein for almost 11 years . In addition to hundreds of concerts and tours almost around the world, the CDs Love Letters (2001), It's Magic (2005) and Change of Pace (2006) were created.

In 1996 he founded the Daniel Messina Band in Germany , with which he is continuing the project he started in Argentina in 1989 with his own compositions and arrangements. Own productions are Solo en Europa (1996), Imágenes (1999), Prioridad a la emoción (2001), El sol sale (2002) and Buenos Aires Affairs (2004).

In January 2001 Daniel Messina started the concert series “Jazz Edge” in Stuttgart with his band . Since the launch of Jazz Network Radio in September 2001, he has been the editor of the Latin channel and, since February 2002, he has also been the editor of the drummer channel, Drummer's Special .
