Schifoan ( standard German skiing ; Austrian skiing ) is a song by Austropop interpreter Wolfgang Ambros .
background
" Schifoan " was released as a single just before Christmas 1976 and was not particularly successful at first. The popularity, which the song soon enjoyed with après-ski audiences in ski huts and discos, made the number a secret hit, something Ambros only became aware of when the fans - also in Germany - kept asking for it on his next tour . He himself had not originally included the title in the program.
Ambros sings about the “Schifoan” in the Stubai Valley and in Zell am See as “ the most beautiful thing you can do” ( standard German: the most beautiful thing you can imagine ). The song is considered the Austrian “winter sports hymn ”.
In 1983 Daniele Cimitan published the cover version Mare , which was followed the following year by the album A Modo Mio with other songs by Ambros translated into Italian.
Another interpretation of the song is from Austrofred .
The Viennese metal band Alkbottle released a parody called Schiffn (colloquial for urinate ) on the album " Blader, fetter, louer " in the 1990s . There the refrain reads: “ Ships is the best when you can go where ” ( peeing is the best thing when you can stand where ).
