Hilary Saint George Saunders

Hilary Aidan Saint George Saunders (* 1898 in Clifton near Bristol , England, † December 1951 in Nassau , Bahamas ) was a British writer.

Saunders wrote under several pseudonyms: "Francis Beeding" (with John Palmer ), "Barum Browne" (with Geoffrey Dennis ), "Cornelius Cofyn" (with John deVere Loder ), "David Pilgrim" (with John Palmer) and "John Somers ”(with John Palmer).

His training was interrupted by World War I , where he joined the Welsh Guards in 1916 . After the war, he went to Balliol College , Oxford to study history. However, he soon made up his mind and worked for the League of Nations from 1920 to 1937 . During this time his writing career began. He teamed up with his boss and best friend, John Leslie Palmer (1885–1944).

He was a chronicler of World War II . He was the Librarian Head of the House of Commons Library from 1946 to 1950 when he left office for health reasons.

Saunders became known for his books and pamphlets during World War II, e.g. B. The Battle of Britain , Bomber Command , Coastal Command , Combined Operations , etc., which he wrote officially and anonymously on behalf of the government, and later for the works Red Beret and Green Beret .

The Sleeping Bacchus is his only novel, a detective novel about the story of an art theft. Saunders also wrote about the Boy Scout movements during World War II in The Left Handshake (1949) after the war .
