The Hilde Ulrichs Foundation for Parkinson's Research is an important point of contact where patients with Parkinson's disease receive independent advice and information on how to deal with the disease. The foundation is the first private foundation in Germany to promote research into non-drug treatment methods for Parkinson's disease. One of the foundation's activities is the awarding of a € 10,000 research prize every two years. In addition, she supports scientific studies and does important educational work to stay mobile with the disease. The foundation is a member of the Parkinson-Bund, an association of organizations that advocate better care for patients with Parkinson's.

The Hilde Ulrichs Foundation for Parkinson's Research was founded by Hermann Terweiden on April 11, 1997, the 1st World Parkinson's Day.

The foundation is named after Hilde Ulrichs, the founder's partner, who died in May 1997 as a result of multiple system atrophy (MSA), a rare, aggressive form of Parkinson's disease.

The foundation's seat is in Florstadt-Staden , Wetteraukreis , Rhein-Main area . The foundation's registered office is in Frankfurt am Main . The foundation is recognized as a non-profit organization and is listed in the foundation register of the Darmstadt Regional Council. It is a member of the Federal Association of German Foundations and the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband .

Mission statement of the foundation

  • The mission of the Hilde Ulrichs Foundation is to enable all people with Parkinson's disease to lead an active life through non-drug therapies and to sustainably improve their quality of life.
  • The foundation works to strengthen the self-responsibility of the patients and to show alternatives to the common medication and medical therapies. The main focus is on sports and exercise therapy as well as creative therapy.
  • The foundation promotes scientific studies in the field of non-drug treatment methods, awards research prizes and supports self-help projects and projects that directly benefit those affected.
  • The foundation retains a fundamental independence from the pharmaceutical industry and refrains from donations from this industry.
