The violence against women helpline (phone number 08000 116 016) has been offering first aid throughout Germany since March 2013 on the free phone number 08000 116 016. It is a support service for women affected by all forms of violence and is available around the clock. The basis of the help phone is the German help phone law. It was adopted as a measure to combat violence of all kinds against women in society, based on the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence . The helpline introduced by law is intended to perform a kind of pilot function, in which, in addition to first aid, those seeking help can be informed of existing offers in their area. The helpline can be reached 24 hours a day on the national number 08000 116 016 .

Women affected by violence can use the helpline to get advice anonymously around the clock . In addition to advice over the phone, there is also online advice available by email or chat . The offer is free, barrier-free, multilingual and is carried out by consultants who can arrange contact points on site if necessary. Sign interpreting can be obtained on the website .

The range of counseling covers all forms of violence and is aimed not only at those affected, but also at their social environment and at people who help those affected professionally or on a voluntary basis.

The task is according to Section 1 of the Helpline Telephone Act is transferred to the Federal Office for Family and Civil Society Tasks and is under the technical supervision of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth .

Since April 2017, a petition to the German Bundestag and all German state parliaments has been calling for a publicly funded helpline to be introduced for men affected by violence.
