Rafe Esquith is an award-winning teacher.

Life

Esquith graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles . He has been teaching at Hobart Boulevard Elementary School in Los Angeles, California , since 1984 . There are many students from families with little education and with a migration background, 92% of the students there live below the poverty line. All of his students are non-native speakers.

His students perform Shakespeare plays every year , including a. at the Royal Shakespeare Company , the Globe Theater and the Ahmanson Theater . In 2005 the documentary "The Hobart Shakespeareans" was shot about it.
