Auxiliary force

Auxiliary troops , often also called Auxilia after the Latin name , especially in ancient times , are troop units that only perform supporting functions due to their armament and armor, e.g. B. to extend the battle line.

They are often recruited from foreign mercenaries . Historical examples are the auxiliary troops of the Roman legions , but also the Askari and Rugaruga of the German protection force in German East Africa (later Tanganyika ).
