The Hilgenstein near Werkel , a district of Fritzlar in Northern Hesse , is a cult stone. Today it stands on the Alter Steinweg and is a boulder that was probably found in the 3rd millennium BC. BC was first set up as a center in a ritual site .

history

The menhir has a height of 1.5 m and a width of 0.5 at the foot and 0.3 meters at the top. The stone covered by earth was found in 1966 by Wilhelm Steinmetz and excavated and set up by the Fritzlar Prehistoric Working Group . It could not be dated with certainty because no other suitable archaeological finds were discovered in the vicinity. It can be assumed that the location is not identical to the original location.
