Hillevi Martinpelto

Hillevi Martinpelto (* 1958 in Älvdalen ) is a Swedish opera singer ( soprano ).

Career

After studying at the Stockholm Opera, Hillevi Martinpelto made her debut there in 1987 in the title role of Puccini's Madama Butterfly . This was followed by an international career with appearances in Brussels, Berlin, London, Munich, Hamburg, Vienna, as well as at the Glyndebourne Festival and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence .

Martinpelto has mastered a wide repertoire of operatic roles, including baroque works as well as modern, Italian and German operas. She made a name for herself especially as an interpreter of Mozart parts. She was particularly encouraged by the conductor John Eliot Gardiner , who also used her in numerous of his recordings.
