Hilmar Prange

Hilmar Walter Prange (born August 4, 1944 in Reichenbach / Eulengebirge , Silesia ) is a German neurologist.

Life

In 1962 Prange passed the Abitur at the 1st Extended High School in Rostock . From 1963 to 1969 he studied medicine at the University of Rostock, whereupon he completed a neurological specialist training in Stralsund and Rostock by 1974 . After moving to the FRG in 1975, he was senior physician and deputy chief physician at the neurological clinic of the Evangelical Johanneskrankenhaus Bielefeld for two years . From 1976 to 2007 he was senior physician at the neurological university clinic in Göttingen. In 1982 he completed his habilitation with the thesis “Zur Nosologie der Neurosyphilis. Attempt a synopsis 35 years after the introduction of penicillin " .

Prange is professor of neurology at the University Clinic Göttingen and was head of the neurological intensive care unit from 1979 to 2007. He gained importance through his studies in the field of neuroinfectiology and through the establishment of laboratory markers for assessing the prognosis after cerebral damage and after cardiopulmonary resuscitation . In clinical studies he also dealt with the long-term effects of poliomyelitis ("polio"). Numerous textbooks on neurological infectious medicine and intensive care medicine have been written by him, which are among the standard works of neurological specialist training.

From 1991 to 1992 he was President of the German Society for Neurological Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (ANIM). He is a member of the German Society for Neurology (DGN), DKGN, ANIM, ENS, German Society for Traffic Medicine and, since 2006, the off-label neurology working group at the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices .
