The Hilton Coliseum is a multi-purpose hall in Ames , Iowa .

History and use

The building was designed by Crites & McConnell and Brooks Borg & Skiles and June 16, 1968 to December 2, 1971 by James Thompson & Son for approximately 8.2 million US dollars built. The arena offers more than 16,000 seats for concerts. The British world star Eric Clapton appeared in the hall in 1990 as part of his Journeyman World Tour in front of a sold-out audience. For sporting events such as basketball , gymnastics , volleyball and wrestling , the spectator capacity is somewhat limited. The Iowa State Cyclones ( Big 12 Conference ) have their home venue in the hall. The event building is owned by Iowa State University and administered by the ISU Athletic Department .
