Henry Vernon , High Sheriff of Staffordshire , had the house remodeled in an early Georgian style around 1720 . The main block is three stories high and has huge corner pillars topped with urns.

The Vernon family had an unusual hexagonal tower built on the site dedicated to the memory of Admiral Edward Vernon and his capture by the Spaniards in Portobelo , Panama in 1739 . This monument has also been listed as a Grade I Historic Building.

In 1955 the family sold the property to the nuns of the Order of Saint Joseph of Bordeaux for use as a convent. From 1986 to 1999 the house served as the headquarters of the Tarmac Group . Today it is a trade office and business center.
