Since November 1993, a monthly gay city magazine has been published in Hamburg under the name hinnerk .

The hinnerk is available free of charge in Hamburg, covers Hamburg in terms of content and has a circulation of around 24,000 copies ( IVW  Q2 / 2013).

The magazine was developed in 1992 by the Hamburg students Werner Hinzpeter and Burkhard Knopke and was initially published by Magnus Verlag in Berlin. After its bankruptcy in 1995, the hinnerk was first published by the Hamburg publisher hinnerk, and later by GSL Media UG. The editors-in-chief were Werner Hinzpeter (1993 to 1994), Burkhard Knopke (1994 to 2000), Jörg Rowohlt (2000 to 2003) and Stefan Mielchen (2003 to 2011). Christian Ewert took on this task until May 2013.

The business premises have been located on Greifswalder Strasse in Hamburg-St. George .

Together with the magazines Leo (Munich), Victory Column (Berlin), FLASH (Cologne) and FRESH (Ruhrgebiet / Düsseldorf), until May 2013 , hinnerk formed a network of gay metropolitan magazines under the name Publigayte .

In May 2013 the blu media group from Berlin took over the Hinnerk and Leo magazines published by Hinnerk-Verlag.
