Hinrich Rüping

Hinrich Rüping (born February 9, 1942 in Bielefeld ) is a German legal scholar , former university lecturer and former OLG judge.

Life

Rüping studied law at the universities of Bonn and Freiburg until his first state examination in law in 1966 . After the two state examinations in law, he received his doctorate in 1968 under Hans Welzel at the University of Bonn with a thesis on Christian Thomasius ' theory of natural law. iur. In 1974 Rüping completed his habilitation process with Hans-Ludwig Schreiber at the University of Göttingen with a thesis on the importance of the principle of the right to be heard in criminal proceedings and received the venia legendi for the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedure law, criminal tax law, criminal law history and legal philosophy.

This was followed by an activity as a scientific adviser at the University of Bonn, which led to a professorship. In 1980 he moved to the University of Augsburg as a full professor , and in 1985 he moved to the University of Hanover . From 1986 he also worked as a judge in the second main office at the Higher Regional Court in Celle . After a two-year professorship at the University of Halle from 1999, Rüping returned to Hanover in 2001, where he taught and researched until his retirement in 2007. After his retirement, he accepted a teaching position at the University of Göttingen, which he held until 2014. From 2008 to 2017 he also worked as a lawyer in Hanover.

His academic students include a. Georg Steinberg , who currently holds a chair for criminal law and criminal procedure law at the University of Potsdam.

Rüping's research focuses primarily on the history of criminal law during the Enlightenment, the history of criminal law under National Socialism, the philosophy of criminal law and criminal tax law.
