An execution van is a vehicle for executions by the lethal injection . These killing devices were developed in the People's Republic of China and were mainly used there by fast courts .

development

The Jinguan ("Golden Crown") company in Sichuan converts Toyota buses into execution vehicles . She wants to have the device patented. The bus has leather upholstery, a stereo system and a small refrigerator. Another model is offered by the Chinese car manufacturer "Golden Dragon", which is also being converted in Sichuan.

According to the manufacturer, due to the high cost of such a bus, the demand is not very high, but constant.

technology

From the outside, the vehicles look like ambulances.

The convicts are tied to a couch in the bus, after which they are injected with a deadly poison cocktail. The procedure is recorded on video. There are benches for the public prosecutor and judge, from which they can watch what is happening in the rear part of the car separated by a soundproof wall on a modern flat screen. A desk with a computer is available for the recorder.

The actual execution chamber is clinically cool. The portable execution bed with the already bound delinquent is pushed through the rear door of the car onto a folding steel frame. Next to it are four folding chairs for the surveillance personnel. In the executioner's "work area" between the bed and the partition wall there is an equipment cabinet , a small wash basin and a portable refrigerator. The poison is kept in it. The lethal syringe is screwed onto a rail to which the convict's arm is tied. The executioner only has to press a button.

Use in China

China carries out by far the highest number of death sentences in the world. The exact number is a state secret. It is estimated that between 5,000 and 6,000 executions in 2011. The nearly 70 crimes that can lead to the death sentence include some non-violent crimes such as corruption or tax evasion.

Execution buses have been common in China since 2003. 19 buses were in use in various Chinese provinces in 2004. Traditionally in China people are shot dead in the neck - u. a. Because of the fear of AIDS and because it makes organ transplants easier, lethal injection is gaining more and more advocates.

Organ removal

The execution fines have another effect, which the Chinese state sees as desirable: "The medical staff can take the organs of the executed directly ." This practice is common in China and is heavily criticized internationally. "The government in Beijing emphasizes that organ removal is done with the consent of the convicts and their families." In reality, this is mostly not the case, Amnesty International contradicts .
