Hipolit Skimborowicz (* 1815 in Zhytomyr , Volyn Province; † July 30, 1880 in Warsaw , Congress Poland ) was a Polish writer, journalist and publisher.

The son of a teacher attended high school in Kremenets. He came to Warsaw in 1838, where he soon established himself as an editor and journalist. He edited the magazine Gazeta Poranna and worked for Przegląd Warszawski and Przegląd Naukowy . He and his wife ran a literary salon in which Warsaw artists, including Narcyza Żmichowska , frequented.

On suspicion of having contacts with conspirators, Skimborowicz was arrested in 1846, but released under police supervision for lack of evidence. In 1848 he - and this time his wife too - was arrested again. After long investigations, both were to be exiled to Siberia in 1850. Ultimately, he was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in the Zamość fortress while his wife was placed under police supervision in Kiev. Later both were allowed to go to Zhytomyr.

After his return to Warsaw, Skimborowicz was first secretary from 1863 to 1873, then custodian of the main library in Warsaw. Then he was a teacher at the 4th grammar school in Warsaw, most recently librarian of the Potockis in Wilanów .
