Hippeus (painter)
Hippeus ( ancient Greek Ἱππεύς ) was a Greek painter who worked in Athens .
Polemon von Ilion tells of a picture that showed the wedding of Peirithoos . According to the description, it was characterized by its light and shadow effects, which is why it was built in the 4th century BC at the earliest. Is dated. Since Polemon in the 2nd century BC Chr. Lived, the lifetime of the Hippeus can only be limited to this period.
Pliny mentions two paintings by an artist named Hyppis or Hyppus (reading unsure), one depicting Poseidon and the other Nike . It is possible that the painter of these pictures can be identified with Hippeus.
